John van der Westhuizen - Wood Art |
I urge the viewer to visit the HOME page to get some history on John van der Westhuizen. These walking sticks are crafted by John van der Westhuizen, using indigenous woods from South Africa, i.e. Black Wood which is virtually unobtainable right now, Red Ivory and Shepard's Tree. The woods are well seasoned, tough but not brittle. All inlays are wood with some acrylic and the comfortable handles are warthog tusks. These tusks are now at a premium, they are difficult to obtain. These items are rare and will be enjoyed by those who appreciate well crafted handwork. Two of these walking sticks are owned by Mr. Nelson Mandela and one of them is in the collection of the late 'Queen Mum' of England.
